Adrian Grenier adds Dell, Uber and Goodwill to his entourage with NYC Tech Takeback program

In an effort to make New Yorkers recycle more, Dell is joining forces with Uber and Goodwill to mitigate electronic waste (e-waste) in honor of America Recycles Day. Actor Adrian Grenier, a Dell Social Good Advocate, will be helping with the cause, titled The NYC Tech Takeback.

This Saturday, between 10 a.m and 4 p.m., Uber drivers will pick up residents’ used electronics for free in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. These drivers will then transport the electronics to Goodwill NY/NJ locations across the city, where they will be recycled by Dell Reconnect. Dell Reconnect is a program that recycles electronic equipment from any brand to one of Goodwill's 2,000 participating locations.

“When safeguarding the environment is as easy as requesting an Uber ride, the choice is a simple one,” said Josh Mohrer, Uber NYC General Manager, in a statement. “Uber is honored to partner with Dell and Goodwill to help New Yorkers dispose of their electronic waste in an environmentally-conscious way.”

The NYC Tech Takeback is designed to help people recycle their old electronics and ultimately reduce the amount of e-waste in the world. When electronics (which make up 41.8 million tons of waste per year) aren’t recycled properly, they pollute landfills with toxic chemicals and become detrimental to the environment as a whole. In New York, where mass transit rules, residents don’t have the ability to properly dispose of their heftier electronics such as computers and televisions.

“We all need to do our part to keep our environment and homes clean and healthy,” said Grenier in a statement. “The NYC Tech Takeback makes electronics recycling easier and helps New Yorkers to rid their homes of dusty old tech while doing something good for our planet.”

On Saturday, all New York residents have to do is open their Uber app, enter the promocode TECHTAKEBACK and request a free pickup.
