Hometeam raises $27.5M to bring better in-home care to seniors

While it can be difficult to provide your parents or grandparents with personal and comfortable assistance in the comfort of their own home, NYC startup

is attempting to solve this problem. The company is taking a new approach to senior home care by making it easier for families to locate and hire qualified caregivers. Yesterday, Hometeam announced a $27.5 million Series B round.

“Hometeam is about creating beautiful days for older adults while giving family members peace of mind,” said Josh Bruno, Founder and CEO of Hometeam in a statement. “The marriage of technology and high quality in-home care will revolutionize our industry and this new round of funding will enable us to build out our platform and offer truly unique and specialized care to older adults in other locations.”

Hometeam provides an interactive and reliable experience for families by connecting caregivers and loved ones using iPad technology. The caregiver uses it to plan fun activities and keep family members updated on what’s happening in their older relative’s life. Family members can also use their mobile devices to send notes and suggestions to the caregiver in real time.

Not only does the service provide families with an ultra-personalized experience, but also offers a robust team of caretakers to meet an older adult’s home care needs. This team of caregivers includes a Caregiver (who comes to your loved one’s home to help improve their quality of life), a Care Advisor (who creates a personalized care plan and matches your family with a Caregiver), Care Coordinator (who ensures clear communication between the team and your family) and Registered Nurse (who visits your loved one every other month to provide a medical assessment).

The latest funding round was led by Oak HC/FT, a leading venture-growth equity fund investing in Healthcare Services technology companies. The firm joins existing investors Lux Capital, IA Ventures and Recruit Strategic Partners.

“In what is traditionally a fragmented marketplace, Hometeam has the technology to intelligently match older adults with experienced caregivers, treating caregivers as valued employees and extended family,” said Annie Lamont, Managing Partner at Oak HC/FT in the statement.

“Hometeam has already had a tremendous impact on the healthcare industry and we are thrilled to partner with Josh and his team to continue delivering tailored and personalized care for the senior community.”

Hometeam plans to use the funding to accelerate its medical and technology development as it continues to grow in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.
