Coworkrs takes fresh approach to coworking with new NYC locations

Coworking is nothing new to the New York City startup scene. Our hometown behemoth, WeWork, is now valued at around $16 billion. While coworking locations around New York cater to what’s typical in tech — with kegs on tap and ping pong tables at the ready — a new coworking company is looking to break the mold.

Last week, concierge-driven workspace Coworkrs opened two new spaces in Manhattan’s Financial District, building upon its existing locations in Flatiron and Gowanus.

Coworkrs was founded in 2013 with a "hospitality approach" to coworking, creating spaces that feel more like boutique hotels than offices. The company employs a team of designers who work closely with architects and manufacturers to create a unique aesthetic for each specific location, catering to the local neighborhood in its design.

For example, Coworkrs’s Flatiron location houses more tech startups, whereas the company’s Gowanus location has more media-centric members.

The company’s latest additions in FiDi, at 55 Broadway and 60 Broad Street, respectively, employ interconnected stairways and expansive window views among their sleek design features, crafted with the executive in mind.

“Entrepreneurs, professionals and innovators of all kinds are seeking flexibility, independence and comfort in their work spaces,” said Shlomo Silber, CEO and co-founder of Coworkrs in a statement.”We believe our role is to serve as their advocates, supporting them with a premium experience while allowing them to focus on their core business and mission."

All Star Code, a nonprofit dedicated to attracting and placing young men of color into the tech sector, is among the first tenants in the new workspace.

“We believe in coworking as a model for fostering mutual collaboration and success," said Christina Lewis Halpern, Founder and Executive Director of All Star Code in a statement. "We consider this 19-person office our new home and its theme is ‘A Place for Learning. We hope we can contribute to this community via our hackathons and other educational, empowering events fostering successful entrepreneurship in black and Latino communities."

Membership ranges across multiple options, running the gamut from day passes, to 10-day passes, to dedicated desks and private office.
