5 NYC companies looking for experienced devs

NYC companies are lining up for fresh engineering talent and brand new coding school graduates are finding themselves in lucrative positions at innovative companies. But, as much as you hear about that, you don't hear much about what job opportunities are like several years down the line. The good news is that companies are just as eager — if not more so — to get their hands on tested and experienced developers. If that's you, here are five positions you should check out.

Senior Software Engineer

What they do: Integral Ad Science makes verification, optimization and analytics products for the advertising industry. They’re big too, operating 20 offices in 10 countries with over 450 employees. Not bad for an 8-year-old company.

What you’ll do: You’ll be responsible for architecting, designing, coding and maintaining software that processes over 10 billion transactions a day. That means you’ll be leading the entire software lifecycle and mentoring your junior team members along the way.

Who they’re looking for: In short, someone with a ton of experience. You should have at least 7 years of hands-on Java experience, be very comfortable working in a Big Data setting and be a superb communicator.

Not quite right? Integral Ad Science is also hiring a Software Engineering Manager, a Senior JavaScript Engineer and Java Architect.

Senior iOS Engineer

What they do: Noom makes mobile health coaching apps that aim to change the way people behave on a massive scale. Their weight loss and exercise tracking apps have reached over 45 million people so far — if every one of them lost just 100 calories, that’s around 1.2 million pounds.

What you’ll do: You’ll be making significant contributions to the feature development of Noom’s existing applications. You’ll be in charge of keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and figuring out which ones make sense to implement.

Who they’re looking for: Someone with at least two years of experience working with iOS and the willingness to learn some Android when needed.

Not quite right? They’re also hiring a Senior Android Software Engineer, a Growth Engineer, a Senior Software Engineer and a Senior Full Stack Engineer.

Senior Software Developer

What they do: Grubhub is what’s for dinner — especially if it’s been a long day or it's particularly rainy/cold outside. The company’s online and mobile platforms allow people in over 1,000 cities to order food from around 40,000 restaurants.

What you’ll do: You’ll be designing and implementing technical platforms and products for Grubhub’s clients. You may know about Grubhub from a consumer standpoint, but the company also works with a lot of restaurants and corporate clients, and they need top-notch software to get it done.

Who they’re looking for: Someone with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and at least five years of experience in the field. You should also have experience working with Java and be familiar with Agile methodologies.

Not quite right? Grubhub is currently looking to hire a whopping 19 developers.

Senior DevOps Engineer (Linux)

What they do: Flatiron Health is using technology to cure cancer. Part of that is a push to build an oncology-specific software platform that connects cancer centers around the world.

What you’ll do: You’ll be doing a lot. You’ll be responsible for building the company’s infrastructure and using that to make applications and data processes. What you build will then, in turn, improve the productivity of your fellow engineers.

Who they’re looking for: Someone with at least five years of engineering experience and a degree in computer science. You should also have a good understanding of Linux systems and be fluent in Bash and Python.

Not quite right? Flatiron Health is currently looking to fill 12 engineering positions.

Senior Software Engineer

What they do: Shoptiques is bringing the boutique shopping experience online. Through their platform, customers can now shop at over 2,000 of the world’s best boutiques from the comfort of their laptop or mobile device. Completely incidentally, your work will be responsible for saving millions of boyfriends the misery of sitting awkwardly in the corner of brick and mortar boutiques while their significant others try on everything in the store.

What you’ll do: You’ll be constructing the Shoptiques product all the way from idea to execution. That means your work will end up being used by tens of thousands of Shoptiques’ customers every day.

Who they’re looking for: Someone with at least six years of experience developing software and an eye for UX and design.
