The Flatiron Health Marketing team is responsible for positioning the company and its products for category leadership, sales growth and market penetration. We reach multiple audiences including: employees, physicians and other care providers, life science companies, researchers and media/analysts. We are seeking a highly-motivated individual who is smart, organized, and well-spoken to join our Marketing team as a PR Intern.

This intern will work with the Communications team to elevate awareness of Flatiron Health across each audience segment as well as tell a comprehensive, compelling corporate story.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the communications team in managing message consistency by shaping and editing news releases, op-eds and guest blog posts
Draft content for external use, included social media posts and press materials
Analyze and track market trends to inform PR strategy and new promotional launches, and achieve maximum press coverage
Support our digital and social media strategies
Support the team with tracking coverage and building out comprehensive reports for the executive team on an ongoing basis
General support on various external and internal communications activities and projects

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduating between December 2017 and June 2018 with a BS or MS degree in marketing, communications, advertising, digital marketing or a related field
Minimum commitment of 30 hours per week from May-August (flexible on start and end dates) at Flatiron HQ in New York City
Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, and written)
Flawless grammar, editing and proofreading skills
Extremely organized and detail-oriented
Able to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment
Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team
Exceptional problem-solving abilities
Friendly and approachable personality
Experience in social media strategy and tactical execution, including ad placement (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram)
An interest in tech, healthcare and oncology

Not Just Building — Innovating

By strategically innovating tools side by side with Flatiron’s existing technology, VP of Software Engineering Allison Candido and her team are reimagining the way technology can be utilized in their users — and by extension, their patients — daily lives. Candido and her team’s work mainly focuses on a mature product, OncoEMR, but they take innovative leaps when they make sense, as seen in the company’s Flatiron Assist product. “We may not be building the most cutting-edge technology, but we are innovating the way our users do their work and treat their patients,” Candido said.

I fundamentally believe in the mission of Flatiron and what we are trying to accomplish with our software — and we still have a lot of work to do to continue transforming oncology care.

A Winning Combination: Human Wisdom and Tech

In machine learning, the phrase “human in the loop” describes iterative models that require a human touch. VP of Data Insights Engineering Will Shapiro puts a health tech twist on the expression. “We’ve been thoughtful about how to put ‘experts in the loop’ — oncologists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians,” Shapiro said. With this expertise, Shapiro is confident Flatiron is poised to empower clinical decision-making. “Flatiron has incredibly rich data across broad segments of the population that can be critical in helping design trials that are more inclusive,” he said.

Ultimately, I think this work has the potential to make sure that the future of medicine is personalized for everyone, not just the targets of traditional trials.

Leveraging the Achilles Heel

What has growth looked like for VP of Product Management Kate Estep? Recognizing her greatest asset and Achilles heel: empathy. Working in a B2B environment, Estep and her colleagues must make prioritization decisions — which impact oncology nurses, physicians, patients and more. Estep internalizes the impact of “saying no” for the physician and patient on the other end of that decision but has learned to leverage the power of compassion. “I empathize with the impact of those user decisions, and have cultivated that empathy into a powerful trust-building tool,” Estep said.

Growth looks like expanding your breadth of influence — we connect strong PMs with projects that increase their impact. This enables PMs to build foundational product leadership skills that prepare them for roles at the next level.
