The Curriculum team is responsible for empowering millions of learners through our interactive platform to build products, train for a new role, or learn valuable skills applicable to their current job. As a Curriculum Developer, you will work on curriculum critical to Codecademy’s mission with opportunities to learn new skills through projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, and marketers to create, maintain, and improve Codecademy's curriculum and learning experience
  • Define, enhance, and deliver data-driven learning experiences
  • Define a competency assessment framework to gauge the effectiveness of curriculum
  • Maintain and improve existing curriculum with educational best practices in mind

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or practical experience required
  • Professional or volunteer experience as a teacher or instructor
  • Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages, including, but not limited to: JavaScript, Ruby, Python, Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Swift, or Go
  • Experience with developer tools such as Git, GitHub, the command line, text editors, and project management software
  • Interest and ability to learn programming languages as needed

Bonus qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or Education
  • Experience with writing educational content in a digital format (such as blogs or e-books) or in print that reaches a wide audience
  • Experience with modern web development, such as front-end frameworks and back-end technologies

Encouragement for learning new skills
Megan O’Neill’s UX career started back when she was in marketing at Codecademy. An engineer put out a call on Slack for help writing an error message, and she jumped at the chance to pitch in. “It might sound silly, but it was just so much fun,” she said. After 15 years in marketing, she’d been contemplating a career move, but wasn’t sure if it was the right time to share her interest in switching roles. “If it didn’t work out, I wasn’t sure what would happen. But in the end, my interest was met with a lot of support — and even excitement,” she said. Now, she’s the team’s first UX writer.

AI tools enable new possibilities in education
Artificial intelligence has become a critical component of decision-making at Codecademy. Ankit Rakha’s team has made great strides in using data and AI to set up a diversity, equity and inclusion analytics dashboard; create a data guild; open an experimentation forum; and incorporate enterprise tooling and machine learning platforms. He likes to think of the data science and engineering teams as a sort of “think tank” for Codecademy, providing insights, helping business partners find solutions and articulating needs: “We believe that data is our users’ voice.”
