BuzzFeed is looking for a smart and experienced news junkie to join BuzzFeed News' curation team and help our talented, dynamic team tell our readers on a multitude of platforms what is happening in the world today.

The successful candidate will have experience at a professional news organization, superior news judgment, and excellent communication and leadership skills, and be obsessed with figuring out what people are sharing, liking, recommending, and talking about online.

This job is full-time and based in New York. We offer competitive compensation and a stock option program.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow BuzzFeed News’ presence on Facebook, Twitter, Apple News, Instagram, and more, working closely with reporters, editors, video producers, and data teams.
  • Establish innovative ways to adapt BuzzFeed News content across distributed channels and advise on developing content for a social audience. This will primarily focus on news videos and live events, with an emphasis on Facebook.
  • Collaborate with BuzzFeed News stakeholders on seeing through objectives crucial to the development, growth, and mission of the News organization. This will require balancing vision, editorial strategy, and platform opportunities with an excellent sense of foresight and holistic understanding of news content and how it shares on the social web.
  • Lead post-mortems and data-driven performance analysis of BuzzFeed News content in a way that executives, editors and reporters can understand.
  • Assist the global news curation director and local managers in guiding the curation team to set goals and optimize publishing across platforms and feeds.
  • Make news judgment calls in the absence of global news curation director.

Requirements:

  • At least 2-4 years of experience editing an app, homepage, or social media account for a news organization.
  • Adept understanding of how, when, and where BuzzFeed News’ current and new audiences wants to consume and engage with content.
  • Deep understanding of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc., and why content on those platforms became popular.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to craft Facebook posts, notifications, and tweets that people want to share and engage with.
  • Comfortable with real-time social reporting: searching for photos and videos, and live-tweeting press conferences and big events.
  • Experience with real-time analytics and social sharing tools.
  • Knowledge of photo- and video-editing software.
  • Relentless attention to detail while comfortable multitasking in a fast-moving breaking news environment.
  • An interest in national and world news, politics, business, tech, and science.
  • Must be a team player and live on the internet.
