What does a great DevOps Engineer do?

  • Set technical direction, architecture and overall approach for the automation of developer workflows.
  • Has strong background and passion for infrastructure automation, including CI/CD, container technologies, and orchestration.
  • Provides leadership and direction to Infrastructure as Code initiative.
  • Has a passion for designing RESTful API’s in Python which enable developers to programmatically interact with infrastructure components such as queueing systems, schedulers, etc.
  • Assist management in developing and evolving TMP’s SDLC processes.  Such as version control, deployment and release strategies.
  • Provide solutions for problems that deal with cross-cutting concerns, common needs and high impact/business critical areas.  Some examples are logging, security, auditing, integrations, scalability, agility, performance, manageability, versioning, health monitoring, and capacity planning.  This includes some hands-on coding as well as oversight of implementation by other developers.
  • Explore and review new technologies that may add value to our product platform.  Help TMP stay ahead of the curve with new emerging technologies.
  • Work closely with the product technical leads to ensure Agile teams are enabled to work at maximum velocity

Requirements for consideration

  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, IT or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a DevOps environment which offers Infrastructure as a Service
  • Expert knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and Linux Operating Systems
  • Expert knowledge of scripting and configuration management languages such as Python and Ansible
  • Experience in Docker, Zookeeper, Consul (Hashicorp products), CoreOS/etcd, Kubernetes, or Mesos
  • Experience building high volume distributed systems
  • Expert knowledge of relational and NoSQL database systems
  • Expert knowledge in log aggregation with technologies such as ELK stack
  • Experience with OpenStack a big plus
  • Expert knowledge of AWS
  • Intimate knowledge with distributed source control systems, build processes, and continuous delivery
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to influence and manage change
