ABOUT THE TEAM

theSkimm makes it easier to live smarter. We started as two friends on a couch and have since purchased more couches and gotten new friends, er... employees. Skimm HQ works hard but knows when to take breaks and when it's time to update the Sonos playlist. Through our suite of products, we are disrupting routines and information consumption one Skimm'r at a time.
The tech team at theSkimm is a group of experienced, resourceful programmers who build tools throughout the tech stack, often connecting components together in innovative ways to maximize scalability and maintainability. Our tech stack includes a mix of Ruby on Rails applications and Node services connecting to Postgres databases. The stack is hosted on AWS in a series of neat, Ansible-configured VPCs that you'll be responsible for maintaining and upgrading as our user base across The Daily Skimm and our mobile applications expands.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As our next DevOps engineer, you'll be tasked with building the systems that support theSkimm's fast-growing product offering. From designing data pipelines to streamlining deployment processes, you'll be responsible for enhancing the tools that our Analytics, Product, and Engineering teams use to achieve ambitious goals.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 4-6 years experience building robust systems with AWS services
  • Deep understanding of fault tolerant cloud architectures, especially based on AWS services such as Elastic Beanstalk and ECS
  • Hands-on experience building out a CI pipeline for managing Docker containers across environments
  • Experience working with AWS database products, especially Redshift
  • Smarts, humility, strong communication skills, and the willingness to share ops knowledge with the application team
WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

  • Familiarity with the Rails framework
  • Hands-on experience with database design and modeling
  • Willingness to thrive in a start-up organization: an ideal candidate is someone eager to learn and contribute outside of their comfort zone
  • Passion for theSkimm's brand and products
