Working at Button is one of the most fun, fulfilling, and challenging experiences you'll have - and it's one of the reasons why we were voted the best place to work in NYC.
Building reliable large-scale distributed systems is hard. We’re creating software that will power hundreds of millions of installed mobile applications, and be on the critical path for billions of dollars of mobile commerce. As our first DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll have the unique opportunity to pioneer a culture of high availability.
AS A DEVOPS/SRE YOU WILL:
  • Steer, mature, and scale a modern API platform.
  • Work closely with other platform engineers to design a scalable, maintainable, service-oriented production architecture.
  • Take control of and automate all aspects of deployment, using tools like Ansible.
  • Design load balancing, failover, and alerting systems for best-in-class 24x7 high availability across all services.
  • Champion best practices surrounding logging, monitoring, build and test systems.
  • Shape our engineering culture by coming up with ideas, tools, and infrastructure wherever you see a problem to be solved.
  • Measure and monitor systems to build company-wide awareness of production; build dashboards for important metrics.
WE LOOK FOR TEAMMATES WHO HAVE:
  • Demonstrated success and experience building and maintaining a highly-available and scalable production system.
  • A love of hands on coding and expert proficiency in at least one language like Python, Ruby, or Go.
  • Mastery of AWS and EC2.
  • Experience designing scalable “mission critical” systems.
  • Figured out what it takes to keep the pager quiet.
  • An ability to move fast, make decisions, and take a pragmatic approach to any problem.
HOW DO WE WORK TOGETHER?
  • Our services are written in Python, NodeJS, and Go.
  • We believe in using the right tool for the job, and we love learning.
  • We use git, Docker, AWS, Graphite, Loggly, and a host of other SaaS tools to run our stack.
  • Everything is code reviewed.
YOU WILL WORK WITH:
  • Mikey Wakerly, CTO. Mikey is Button’s Hawaiian shirt enthusiast and Chief Technology Officer. Founder of Kegbot, a former Googler, and San Francisco transplant, he loves mountain biking, karaoke and logic games.
  • Bennett Hiles, Software Engineer. Bennett’s a platform engineer at Button, spending his time building APIs and backend services. He’s a fan programming languages, databases, delicious food, and NHL 94 (on Super NES). He’s a newbie to NYC (been here for a year) so he’s still exploring the town and taking it all in.

Our team also values and celebrates our diverse backgrounds. Being open about who we are and what we do allows us to do the best work of our lives. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. You can learn more about how we are making Button a diverse and inclusive environment through our perks and benefits here.
