Mic is looking for a Director of Content Development who will be responsible for developing premium non-scripted original productions. This will include traditional long form television formats, both series and specials, as well as non-traditional digital formats, that will be pitched and sold to third party platforms and networks.

The candidate will have a proven track record of content development and production experience to support and fulfill the strategic objectives of a highly cross-functional organization. This candidate should have strong contacts within the creative and production communities, as well as a deep understanding of both the traditional and digital content acquisition market.

This position will report to Mic’s Executive Producer and work closely with Mic’s Head of Business Development.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a strong programming slate via internal ideation and research, use of Mic IP, and soliciting pitches from external sources
  • Write and refine loglines, treatments, decks, pitch sizzles, and other materials into pitch packages for the Video and Business Development teams
  • Identify and attach producers and directors to Mic projects
  • Work closely with Casting Director to attach talent to Mic projects
  • Develop projects with strong consideration towards budget, timeline, and opportunities for renewals, spin-offs, and ancillary content
  • Work closely with various departments (Business Development, Editorial, Finance and Communications) to ensure open lines of communication to secure proper approvals, establish clear workflow process, keep relevant parties abreast of updates and milestones, and align with larger company goals

Must haves:

  • 5-7 years hands-on development and production experience in traditional and digital entertainment, including prior production company and/or network experience
  • Experience in development across a variety of unscripted formats and genres - specifically news programming, talk shows, and docuseries
  • An independent thinker and idea-generator with outstanding editorial judgment and creative abilities
  • Very strong track record of creative development, with direct examples of generating and sourcing ideas, internally and externally, and translating them into high-quality content in a cost efficient manner
  • Highly engaged and interested in news from an editorial and creative perspective
  • Knowledge of contemporary production and post-production capabilities
  • Proficient in production economics with the ability to forecast content budgets
  • Ability to foster a collaborative work environment and develop, mentor, and nurture development team
