Thrillist is looking for a Director of Development to lead our efforts in developing new video series programming for everything from social video platforms to linear television. The right person will understand what audiences of all kinds want, be overflowing with fantastic ideas, and possess the production skills to pilot the best ideas for evaluation.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with our editorial creative and production leads to develop an abundance of ideas for various destinations: YouTube, an ever-evolving FB, Snap, emerging platforms, streaming services, linear TV, etc.
  • Ensure those ideas effectively represent and further the Thrillist brand, and are engineered to generate significant audience
  • Relentlessly hone those ideas into working concepts, then oversee the creation of pilots for a certain percentage of said concepts
  • Execute handoffs for greenlit pilots with a producer who will handle ongoing production, and set them up for success
  • Create sizzles and other pitch materials for any pilots that require them
  • Act as the main point of contact with our Group Nine Studios team, which is actively pitching our ideas and pilots to third parties
  • Potentially oversee a growing development team
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate, then communicate some more
  • Care about things, a lot

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience developing series concepts for digital and/or linear video applications
  • 7+ years producing video of all kinds
  • Be a producer, editor, shooter, audio technician, scriptwriter, DP, gaffer, and 60 other video production skillsets all rolled into one
  • Absurdly strong organizational skills and the ability to manage many projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • A deep and passionate knowledge of the food, travel, and entertainment worlds that never even comes close to snobbery
  • An extreme willingness to receive constructive feedback and work through ideas and problems
  • The ability to have a 15-minute conversation about brisket, airplane drinking, or Game of Thrones (or maybe all three at once) with literally anyone
