 Overview

This position is responsible for the core product of the organization. As Director of Product Management, the position requires executing projects and features from ideation through execution as well as coordinating and managing adjacent product initiatives. This role requires you to work across key internal stakeholders, departments (leadership, education & research, business, content, design, engineering, & marketing) and partners to define scope, draft technical specs, prioritize/delegate work, and ensure that all project deadlines are met in conjunction and coordination with overall product strategy. The role requires ownership of workflow from proposal to release as well as all of the communication in between.

Responsibilities

Product Roadmap Management

  • Work closely with the leadership team to define scope and provide technical estimates of features to help with prioritization decisions.

  • Contribute to the overall product roadmap and release schedule, working with leadership and department heads to provide estimates and set overall priorities.

  • Work with the consumer research and design team to define customer flow, new screens, and updates to the product.

  • Continually iterate on features to constantly improve on the overall customer experience.

Requirements Development

  • Use insights from internal data, consumer/user research and competitive intelligence to develop comprehensive requirements including user flows, wireframes and functional specs, etc, in a lightweight and iterative agile/scrum environment

  • Oversee design and development of requirements; provide direction and feedback, perform extensive testing, provide sign off and manage overall release process

  • Create technical specs for the Engineering team, prioritize Engineering work and work within a scrum environment to execute projects.

  • Assess market competition and stay on top of competitor products.

Team Management

  • Keep employees focused with clear communication of prioritized and prioritized requirements.

  • Engage with teams to ensure delivery of high quality products while managing expectation and the pursuit of perfection.

  • Work closely with Project Management to constantly evaluate and implement processes to improve team velocity in order to deliver products on time and at budget.

Reporting & Budgeting

  • Work with all teams within the business to execute project plan from ideation to completion.

  • Provide KPIs to leadership team and track progress against those KPIs.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Prepare return-on-investment analyses on product roadmap features

Requirements:

  • 8-10 years of Product Management experience
  • Experience with managing a high-performance product development team
  • Experience working in Agile environment with a bias towards action
  • Previous experience working across teams to execute both large and small scale projects, as well as experience working in startups.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with the ability to communicate to both business and technical personnel
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills, with the ability to think about how to solve a problem in a different way and question the assumptions.
  • Able to use qualitative and quantitative data to interpret trends, diagnose problems, and develop innovative & effective actions plans to resolve issues.
  • Exceptional ability to develop and maintain cross-functional relationships; including remote team members and partners

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience working with remote teams is a plus
  • Experience in Ed Tech and/or Kids Media is a plus
