The Role:

As the Director of Systems and Data Engineering at Intersection, you will be responsible for the delivery of systems and services that enable our Link and Transit products to be operated on a global scale. You will work hand in hand with software and systems engineers to create, enhance, and operate services and IoT devices that deliver on our mission. You and your teams will develop, deploy, and utilize tools and frameworks to easily ingest and make use of data from sensors, 3rd parties, and Intersection products. You will jump between technical and vendor management discussions and you will work closely with other team members to grow and streamline our collective capability. This role requires excellent team management and leadership skills and an ability to think and speak clearly. We expect that you have a hands-on understanding of modern engineering tools, as it relates to configuration management and cloud hosting providers. You should be a strong collaborator, creative problem solver, and someone who enjoys learning and sharing knowledge.

What you will accomplish:

  • Improve team productivity through engineering practices, collaboration, and technical direction
  • Lead, manage, and direct the systems and data engineering teams on a day to day basis
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership across systems and data engineering teams
  • Earn the respect and credibility of the engineering team through pairing, collaboration, and technical expertise
  • Shepherd agile and lean practices and process at scale across your teams and collaborating teams
  • Work with teams to define a unified technical vision for our systems and data, and collaborate to help progress towards that vision
  • Identify technology and product solutions to strengthen our applications resilience and data effectiveness
  • Helping drive from ambiguity towards something tangible through an iterative process
  • Work across multiple teams to achieve business objectives and maximize value 

What we are looking for:

  • Significant experience in the field of engineering
  • Track record of building and supporting successful tech-based products and platforms at scale
  • Passion and expertise with agile engineering practices, such as test automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and test-driven development within a DevOps culture
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams to deliver high-quality services, through collaboration between Systems and Product engineers
  • Being a hands-on systems engineer, with experience in modern cloud-based services, is integral to success in this position
  • Proven experience working with customers and stakeholders at the highest levels
  • Strong capabilities of observation, analysis, synthesis
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate the business benefits and tradeoffs for various technical approaches and investments.
  • Ability to balance what’s ideal with what’s practical and understand how to make incremental steps to improve
