Mic is expanding its video offerings and looking for a highly organized and ambitious researcher to join Visions, the long-form video content team. Candidates will lead research and assist in the pre-production of the unit’s long-form series and documentaries. The Documentary Researcher will report to Mic's Senior Producer.
This is a contract position, with the opportunity to become a full-time, permanent role.
Responsibilities:
- Perform in-depth research on long-form projects, which includes conducting pre-interviews, fact-checking and organizing findings
- Help source stories, footage and photos
- Review relevant news websites, publications and journals and stay up to date on new information
- Assist in pulling archival content and clearing third-party materials
- Communicate research with producers and work with production team to ensure research/content is used accurately and legally
Qualifications:
- 3+ years relevant research experience
- Excellent research skills and editorial judgment
- Process-oriented, extremely organized
- Highly communicative
- News savvy and passion
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a high pressure environment
- Passion for editorial storytelling, news and new media
- Commitment to high standards — inherit understanding of journalistic editorial and creative best practices
Bonus:
- Investigative reporting
- Data journalism experience
- Experience with LexisNexis or similar
