Bluecore’s Forward Deployed Engineering team (or the ‘FDE’s’ as they prefer to be known) is a crack team dedicated to helping Bluecore customers to extract maximum value from the Bluecore platform. In the role as FDEs, they bring their technical know-how to the front lines, working directly with customers to design and implement marketing campaigns that map to the customer’s vertical, audience behavior and product mix.

The Forward Deployed Engineer Manager will oversee the Forward Deployed Engineering team and be expected to maximize their productivity, ensure that they are providing the best customer solutions, enhancing the overall customer experience and developing and establishing client technology standards. The right candidate will seek to foster teamwork and accountability among direct reports, and encourage and exemplify healthy communication and cooperation with other groups in the company.

As a manager, you will be expected to be able to carry out the same tasks as the Forward Deployed Engineers in order to better guide and lead this team. You will have the ability to write our JavaScript integrations and configure our internal Domain Specific Language that is used to configure Ecommerce emails. You will also be expected to be an escalation point with our clients. Besides raw intellect and the ability to not take yourself too seriously, it is really important to be very detail oriented with all our work across many different clients, as we work with a multitude of billion dollar brands who have very stringent requirements around look and feel.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach and mentor a team of forward deployed engineers, providing career guidance and holding regular one-on-one sessions.
  • Help manage the career growth of your team and ensure that everyone has skill development plans.
  • Work with our recruiting team to continue to build out the best team.
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality through code reviews and helping the team think through edge cases that our customers will bring forward.
  • Facilitate team meetings and team retrospectives.
  • Partner with the Engineering and Product teams as well as other departments, and stakeholders to align on broader engineering and company initiatives.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point-of-contact pre-launch; essentially, act as a sales engineer.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point-of-contact post-launch: work closely with the rest of the Customer Success team and directly with clients to think creatively about customizations and different ways to leverage the Bluecore platform.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in technology positions, at least 2 of them in a direct management position
  • Experience working and communicating directly with customers.
  • Fluent in Web Development Technologies including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Ability to take ambiguous workflows and turn them into structured processes.
  • Familiarity with Ecommerce is a bonus.
