Job Description:

You will be joining a team of talented engineers and helping build and maintain tools that form the backbone of our User Interfaces. You will be helping to build and maintain everything from our living style guide (SASS/CSS based style guide where the documentation is generated from the code) to React components that will be used by our user interface teams. This role will also have a hand in maintaining and enhancing the application that servers our style guide and documentation. You will also publish internal npm modules that help other engineering teams will every aspect of their work, from the build pipeline to client applications.

In this role, you will report directly to the team’s tech lead. This role requires having attention to detail, a passion for exploring emerging technologies, and good communication skills. An ideal candidate would have a high level of comfort with Sass, Javascript (client and server side), and build processes. This position is instrumental in keeping projects across multiple teams in sync and necessitates having an appreciation for distributed tools and seeing another team-member’s work improve as a direct result of your own.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of professional web development experience
  • Abreast of current trends, best practices and web standards
  • Experience with page speed testing and optimization techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of JavaScript
  • Understanding of fundamental CSS paradigms and their applications
  • Passion for writing semantic and standards ­compliant cross-­browser HTML/CSS
  • Familiarity with front-end CSS frameworks (Foundation, Bootstrap, etc.)
  • Experience with build tools (Grunt, Gulp, Webpack, etc.)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN)
  • Experience with CSS pre­compilers (Sass, Less)
  • Experience with automated unit and integration tests to support continuous delivery
  • Familiarity working in a Unix environment
  • Comfort with mobile-first responsive development strategies
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and nontechnical team members

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with visual designers to add and modify components and themes to our shared UI-Toolkit, which generates the application’s distributed CSS deliverables.
  • Maintain and modify the UI-Toolkit’s Node-based Living Style Guide application and asset build-pipeline.
  • Develop existing end-to-end testing strategies into a full-fledged, reliable integration testing framework.
  • Document strategies regarding the implementation, usage, and strategies of the UI-Toolkit.
  • Participate in collective architectural decision-making and technical research.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience with Docker
  • Familiarity with Living Style Guides and other CSS documentation strategies
  • Familiarity with Front-end package management and distribution methodologies (npm, bower, etc.)
  • Strong design sense
  • Experience with one or more modern Javascript MVC frameworks (React, Angular, Backbone, etc.)
  • Active participant and contributor to the open source community
