Your Mission at LearnVest

The Pre-Client Team is responsible for enhancing and building the next generation of LearnVest’s applications to inform, attract, and nurture potential new customers to its services. Some of the main challenges that you’ll be involved with are: (i) implementing effective UI enhancing UX; (ii) collecting and interpreting analytics data (iii) implementing APIs within microservices architectures, and scaling the application into our cloud infrastructure. You will leverage our sophisticated infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) that allows us to deploy features at will.

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join our Pre-Client Engineering team to help architect, develop, and provide robust user interfaces/experiences. You will work cross-functionally with product, marketing, data, research, and design to change the dynamic of user acquisition within the financial services space by building a digital marketplace that personalizes the user experience.

Your general milestones are:

  • Month 1 - Ramping Up: be a sponge and get up to speed quickly, taking on tasks and contributing to the team.
  • Month 2 - Independent: participating in the day-to-day activities of the project, working on critical tasks, interfacing with other teams.
  • Month 3 - Cruising: be a fully contributing member of the team, with solid knowledge of the current architecture and direction of the project. Mentoring more junior engineers in a team is expected.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in web application development
  • Programming experience in Java or another JVM-based language
  • Programming experience in JavaScript (ES6)
  • Track record of impactful contributions on web application projects
  • Exposure to both NoSQL / relational databases
  • Familiarity with git
  • Proficiency in writing useful/maintainable unit testing code

Preferred Qualifications

  • Java 8 and/or JVM fine-tuning
  • Experience with a popular Java web framework: Spring Boot, Dropwizard, Ratpack, vertx, or netty
  • Experience with React (or Angular) & Node.JS
  • Experience with creating/maintaining Restful APIs
  • Exposure to microservices architecture
  • Exposure to websockets
  • Web Development with HTML, CSS, & SASS
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes or related technology
  • Familiarity with AWS is highly appreciated, especially EC2 and S3
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with Jira
  • Experience with Unix-like operating systems.
  • B.S. degree or higher in Computer Science, Math or related fields are a plus.
