Bankrate.com is looking for a Graphics Editor. The position can be based in the San Francisco area, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, or Washington, D.C.

Candidates must know how to create compelling infographics and data visualizations. They should have experience interpreting and presenting financial data and economic concepts in a visually appealing way.

The editor must be able to work across departments and beats, and help develop exclusive stories that get national attention.

The Graphics Editor must have excellent knowledge of current best practices in data visualization, infographics and data reporting. A strong knowledge of current data visualization tools and graphics software is a must. Applicants must be able to design and fully execute their designs.

The editor must be a storyteller capable of finding exclusive news and information within data, and then translate it into visualizations, text, video or other formats. Online or hard copy portfolio is required.

Responsibilities:

• Lead visual story/graphics design for stories.
• Ideate with reporters at the start of stories, pitching graphics and visuals to help narrate.
• Lead the effort to tell the day's best stories in new visual ways including data visualization, interactives, infographics and emerging platforms.
• Train editors in visual story-telling techniques.
• Constantly seek new tools and partnerships to create those visual stories.
• Take the lead in understanding the role visual storytelling plays in social media and emerging platforms, making recommendations to the team and to the markets.
• Work with the development team to take a lead role on integrating multimedia into site design.
• Work with research to understand metrics on our storytelling and allow them to inform our decisions.

Qualifications:

• Strong technical fluency in graphic and visual design.
• Minimum 2 years demonstrated experience in creating infographics and visualizing data.
• Candidate must have excellent skills in Excel and graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
• Candidate must be familiar with current data visualization and visual analytics software.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience in interactive infographics is a plus.
