Head of Real Estate Capital
Common seeks a new team member to manage relationships with real estate investors. As an operating company establishing a significant real estate footprint, Common requires a dynamic, resourceful individual to grow and cultivate our equity capital markets relationships.

About Common
Common designs, creates, and operates all-inclusive homes, bringing community, convenience, and flexibility to housing. Common members know their neighbors, enjoy more free time, and have the opportunity to transfer to any Common home across the country. Since launching, Common has received more than 20,000 applications for membership and has opened more than a dozen homes across New York, San Francisco, Oakland, Chicago and Washington, DC.

Common partners with real estate owners as a flag and operator. By doing this, Common addresses the fundamental supply and demand issues that underlie housing in major cities today. Common opened its doors to its first home in Brooklyn in October 2015.

About the Role
Over the past two years, Common has demonstrated that coliving can provide outsized yields to real estate developers and investors. Our operations have attracted increasing interest, as dozens of investors are now pursuing real estate investments with Common in mind. While Common is not a real estate developer, our growth is often dependent on our developer partners’ ability to access capital, and fostering relationships between talented real estate developers and investors would accelerate our growth and create value for everyone. Access to additional capital – and the ability to establish and maintain investor relationships - will allow us to scale our operations, and to secure better building locations.

As Common continues to grow and more investors seek access to our real estate opportunities, we need a full-time professional to manage our relationships with real estate investors. These investors range from high net-worth individuals to global institutional organizations, and cover the spectrum of risk and return. However, most should have an appetite for real estate development in the United States.

The Head of Real Estate Capital will maintain and enhance relationships with our existing investors, as well as establish new relationships, leveraging our team's networks to bring new sources of real estate capital to the table. The Head will work closely with our Acquisitions team to pair investors with properties which meet our investment criteria. This is a crucial role on our team reporting directly to the CFO, and this individual will be expected to be a part of crafting, as well as executing, Common's business strategy.

Qualifications
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the real estate equity capital markets;
  • A demonstrated knowledge base of investors, specifically those interested in US real estate multifamily development projects;
  • A demonstrated knowledge base of terms, return expectations and conventional structuring guidelines associated with US real estate development projects;
  • Financial savvy, with the ability to understand projected returns and risk;
  • Entrepreneurial and self-motivated work style and ethic;
  • Willingness to ask for help when needed;
  • Ability to prioritize your time and effort across multiple projects.
  • Ability to establish, guide and close equity investment transactions between a General Partner and its Limited Partners;
  • Ability to establish and maintain a large, varied network of investor relationships, traveling frequently and integrating Common in the HNW/family office and institutional investor networks.
