DESCRIPTION

Away is seeking a forward-thinking Lead Full Stack Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate thought-leader that is adept at creating elegant, future-facing experiences and technologies. They will be developing technology solutions, working closely with a variety of stakeholders as a leader of the Away Technology team.

The right candidate is excited to be an early employee at a recently-launched, venture-backed lifestyle brand and is eager to take on an array of responsibilities spanning technology execution and strategy. This position is based out of our headquarters in NoHo, New York City.

REQUIREMENTS

What you'll do:

• Collaborate with the Technology, Digital Product and Creative teams to build and plan new features for Away web properties, including both e-commerce and editorial experiences
• Support production-facing content sites, e-commerce site. and operations systems
• Work with the Digital Product and Growth Marketing teams on funnel optimization, instrumentation, A/B tests and marketing campaigns
• Help us push and refine our technology, user experience and creative practices
• Deploy to code to production multiple times a day
• Help us transition from Backbone to React
• Serve as a key tactical and strategic technology representative within the organization

Who you are (required):

• 5+ years of professional development experience
• Advanced JavaScript expertise
• Experience with CSS and styling frameworks
• Experience with React and various state patterns/libraries (e.g. redux, mobx)
• Experience with Rails and Ruby
• Strong drive towards clean and optimized code
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming, functional programming and design patterns
• Good understanding of the modern software development process, tools and services (e.g. CI, GitHub Flow, PRs, code reviews)
• Plenty of experience creating and utilizing APIs and RESTful endpoints
• Experience with Agile project methodologies
• Love to travel (but that's a given)

Who you are (ideal):

• Advanced expertise with React or other component-based frameworks
• Experience with JS-based styling frameworks
• Expertise in node and Express / Koa / Hapi
• Experience with GraphQL / Apollo / Relay
• Experience with universal builds application builds
• Experience with Solidus or Spree
• Strong understanding of functional programming principles and libraries (e.g. lodash, ramda)
• Strong testing ethic and experience with various approaches (e.g. unit, integration, load testing)
• Experience deploying and/or interacting with AWS, GCE, Heroku or similar
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
