OVERVIEW
Swirled has an immediate opening for a sharp, self-motivated Newsletter Editor to deepen our engagement with our most loyal audience and expand/define our email product. Our newsletter is a key part of our content strategy, which provides relevant lifestyle news to females ages 20-30 with an interest in health, career and travel and a desire for efficiency. The Newsletter Editor would help develop this and other email products or special features.

 

The ideal candidate will have proven experience growing email newsletters and messaging programs as measured by an increase in subscribers, an increase in newsletter-driven traffic to the website and an increase in revenue tied to a newsletter and messaging product.

He or she will also understand how to create smart segmentation strategies, taking Swirled’s current list and identifying effective ways to better target editorial content to readers.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Create and curate our daily newsletter product.
  • Work with top editors to achieve editorial through our daily newsletter product, with a focus on voice, originality, accuracy, humor and Swirled’s wealth of editorial content.
  • The right candidate will have an eye for incorporating strong, engaging visuals — illustration, graphic design, and photography —  into our newsletter.
  • Ideate, lead and follow marketing strategies and experiments to grow our daily newsletter.
  • A/B test new content, subject lines, and other variables to optimize results.
  • Present results and share learnings with internal and external stakeholders including editorial, management and ad sales
  • Master the site’s web analytics (Parse.ly/ Google Analytics) and our distributed strengths, and excel at identifying opportunities for growth based on data and industry trends.
  • Coordinate effective promotion of subscriber acquisition through social media strategy, on-site placement, and partner relationships.
  • Conceive of and execute special newsletter offerings on key trends and events that are popular with readers and align with the site’s business goals.
  • Embrace innovation and constantly look for new ways to present stories to Swirled readers.
  • Take ownership of big projects and to do the work to get products launched on deadlines.
  • Curious and willing to do deep research and analysis of what's working and what isn't.
  • Able to take perspectives of others and collaborate with lots of players across growing content teams, initiatives and our newsroom.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3+ years of writing and managing email newsletters or similar digital products, preferably for a major media company.
  • Experience with testing subject lines, content and other calls to action.
  • Demonstrated mastery of web analytics, including newsletter analytics such as click-throughs to open rates.
  • Experience with ESP services like Net-Results, MailChimp or similar software that favors heavy experimentation.
  • Proficiency working in an email campaign management tool, including setting up campaigns, pulling reports and reviewing analytics.
  • Experience working in a digital publishing environment – background in creative writing and/or journalism
  • Passion and knowledge about lifestyle content, especially health, wellbeing and productivity.
  • Experience working closely and collaboratively with editorial, advertising, engineering and design teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-directed work style. and polished communication skills.
