BuzzFeed News is looking for a politics research intern.This intern will work with our political reporters on stories, assisting with research work and reporting, in addition to working on research for solo stories. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the best political reporters working, and to learn about how to report on campaigns when they’re being put together at the ground level.
BuzzFeed News political coverage helped define the last two presidential election cycles, through aggressive reporting and uniquely ambitious features and profiles. Our goal each day is to produce excellent political news that is well-reported, accurate, sharp, and substantial, and features underpinned by emotional intelligence about where their subjects stand in the world.
Before applying, consider: Do you enjoy reading extensively? Are you willing to listen to long audio or video clips? Are you game to make phone calls for reporting purposes? Are you the kind of person who knows where to go on the internet to find a very specific piece of information?
This is a full-time, paid intern position in our New York office for the fall and expected to last for three months. The position will report to the political editor. (No D.C. or remote, sorry!)
Responsibilities:
- Work with BuzzFeed News political reporters and the political editor on stories (that’s it!)
Requirements:
- Some level of journalism experience (student or otherwise), or a demonstrated political journalistic sense (Twitter feed, etc.)
- Willingness to make phone calls and take direction on how to report
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for researching diverse topics
