The ideal candidate thrives on balancing product strategy and execution, and is comfortable delving into the details of product features and identifying product direction. The product manager is ultimately responsible for the success of their product, from initial concept through to market.
Responsibilities
  • Identifying product vision and roadmap
  • Driving consensus around the vision and roadmap from stakeholders and team members
  • Driving the team on execution against the roadmap communication, internal and external
  • Seeing product through to market
  • Working across teams to ensure product success, including design, content, engineering, analytics, and community/marketing

Megan O’Neill’s UX career started back when she was in marketing at Codecademy. An engineer put out a call on Slack for help writing an error message, and she jumped at the chance to pitch in. “It might sound silly, but it was just so much fun,” she said. After 15 years in marketing, she’d been contemplating a career move, but wasn’t sure if it was the right time to share her interest in switching roles. “If it didn’t work out, I wasn’t sure what would happen. But in the end, my interest was met with a lot of support — and even excitement,” she said. Now, she’s the team’s first UX writer.

Artificial intelligence has become a critical component of decision-making at Codecademy. Ankit Rakha’s team has made great strides in using data and AI to set up a diversity, equity and inclusion analytics dashboard; create a data guild; open an experimentation forum; and incorporate enterprise tooling and machine learning platforms. He likes to think of the data science and engineering teams as a sort of “think tank” for Codecademy, providing insights, helping business partners find solutions and articulating needs: “We believe that data is our users’ voice.”
