About LearnVest:

LearnVest is redefining the American approach to personal finance. Our planners leverage financial technology to create simple, affordable, realistic plans for anyone who wants to feel confident about their money and optimistic about the future.

Since launching in 2010, LearnVest has been one of the premier financial technology companies in the country, helping thousands of people make progress on their financial goals. LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual in 2015 and is now scaling its technology and personal finance approach to help millions of people across both the LearnVest and Northwestern Mutual brands.

Description:

In order to build an accurate and comprehensive financial plan, we need to gather a certain amount of information about a client. That’s where you come in.

LearnVest is looking for a Product Manager to join the Planning Experience team who will own strategic solutions that allow us to maintain the specificity of our planning advice while relieving the burden of manual entry on planners. This could include sourcing client information from dynamic account aggregation, promoting and enabling the seamless integration of a client’s plan data across many systems to reduce duplicative entry, and proactively communicating the assumptions we will make if a field is left empty. The role requires the patience and persistence to solve complex problems, ability to get things done quickly but thoughtfully, and strong product, relationship and stakeholder management skills.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Play a fundamental role in changing the personal financial landscape of America
  • Build day-to-day like a start-up - incrementally and iteratively - but with the security and resources of an enterprise budget
  • Collaborate in a deeply cross functional way with engineers and designers - roll up your sleeves and put your heads together to brainstorm requirements for features and solution through thorny bugs
  • Release to production early and often - you won’t be working on a product for a year before it sees the light of day; we believe in MVPs.
  • Get to know your end users - observe users firsthand working with the software, and field ideas and requests from them directly
  • Harness the power of cutting-edge predictive and algorithmic technology to simplify planning processes
  • Test and learn - You are empowered to work with our Analytics and UX Research experts to identify problems, formulate hypotheses, and experiment with solutions
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and strategic partnerships with external and internal key stakeholders across teams to deliver features
  • Work with a talented, mission-driven, fun-loving team who values your input and your individuality

Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone who has driven lean product development with cross-functional teams: You have a strong sense of which questions to ask and factors to consider in writing effective user stories and coordinating feature releases.
  • Someone with listening skills: You seek out the opinions of others to inform your decisions, but are able to defend your own when challenged. You’re open to shifting your stance on something when you uncover new information.
  • Someone with empathy for the end user: You are curious and compassionate. You have strong intuition about what makes a great product, but you also rely on qualitative and quantitative feedback to drive the direction.
  • Someone with technical chops: You don’t need to code, but you should be able to gauge what technologies work best for the job, what’s easy or difficult to implement, degree in Computer Science or a related field is plus, Financial Services experience another plus
  • Someone who is data-driven: You know how to leverage data to make good decisions when confronted by ambiguity. You may not have all the answers upfront but you figure out how to find them.
  • Someone who learns quickly and thinks strategically: You have the ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps. You’re ready to jump right in and get your feet wet. You’re able to see the big picture and identify opportunities to strengthen the end-to-end experience.
  • Someone who is flexible and comfortable with ambiguity: You have experience working in a lean, agile environment. You have the ability to move quickly but not rashly. You can evaluate trade-offs.
  • Someone who is organized and efficient with an attention to detail: You do not let important details slip through the cracks and derail a release. You’re able to produce significant output with minimal wasted effort.
  • Someone who is highly effective at communicating: You’re comfortable and persuasive when presenting to large groups, convincing people to run towards goals, and managing multiple stakeholders.

Our Benefits:

  • Fully stocked snacks, beer fridge, cold brew kegs, frequent catered lunches, company dodgeball team, and whiskey hours.
  • Tuition reimbursement, commuter plans, and paid time off
  • Highly competitive compensation that include base salary plus bonus
  • Medical/Dental/Vision plans, matching 401(k), pension program
