We want an astute, dedicated and emotionally intelligent Recruitment Manager who will help our managers hire talented individuals who care about our vision and share our values.

This is an operationally challenging role working with every manager in our organisation: across editorial, technology and commercial in the US and the UK, reporting directly to the COO.

Full operational responsibility for our Recruitment function will give you the opportunity to have an impact on the ability of the company to be successful, and give you experience of being responsible for hiring for a rapidly expanding headcount. You will make more than 30 full-time hires in your first 12 months.

Some of the projects you manage will require creative and marketing skills, such as developing our employer brand from scratch.

You will spend a large amount of time speaking to managers, working directly with them on quickly making important hires for their teams. You’ll find this work very rewarding as you see the impact each successful hire you make has on their team and the company’s success. 

Given the number of hires you’ll be responsible for making in your first year, the future of our company and our team will be in your hands.

Responsibilities

  • Lead every stage of our hiring process, upholding best practice and working with managers:
  • Develop a detailed internal project plan for every hire
  • Take on the work of sourcing and identifying top quality candidates for every role
  • Co-ordinate and lead the assessment process
  • Manage feedback process with candidates, and more widely manage the candidates and any recruiters involved in the hiring process
  • Lead offer-making and negotiation process
  • Lead all administrative and cultural on boarding in each hire’s first week, upholding best practice
  • Develop and maintain our employer brand
  • Assist managers when an employee is leaving the company:
  • conduct exit interviews
  • manage exit administration, including closing down accounts
  • inform employees about our exit policies and procedures, work with the employee’s manager and the Finance department to ensure they are followed
  • Track performance against our recruitment KPIs, showing how successfully our recruitment function is supporting managers and our growth plans

A successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working as an in-house recruiter at a fast-growing company or start-up. Preference for candidates who have experience recruiting in-house at a start-up media company.
  • Proven strength in Recruitment / Talent Acquisition
  • A passion for what our company does and for our brands

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following strengths and attributes:

  • Persuasive and charismatic, ability to sell a role and the company to candidates
  • Curious and candid, communicates directly and openly
  • Hard-working and able to deal with the ambiguity and rapid change involved in working at a startup
  • Detail orientated and deeply analytical
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong instinct for discovering top talent

What you will have to do in your first 12 months to be successful:

  • Overseen successful hiring and on boarding of at least 30 members of staff
  • Hired the best possible talent for each role, at least 70% of new staff still working for us after 12 months
  • Improved ‘time to hire’ as much as possible, average time to hire lower than 3 months launch to start date
  • Reduced the recruitment workload for all managers to involvement in planning and assessment
  • Received extremely positive feedback in quarterly 360 reviews of your performance and our recruitment function involving all managers and successful hires

Compensation and Benefits

  • $45,000 - $60,000 salary per annum, dependent on experience
  • 20 days paid vacation per annum (plus federal holidays)
  • Breakfast provided in the office
  • Free drinks on a Friday
