We are currently seeking a Research Analyst to help us understand audiences, engagement and ad impact in the social platforms. The Analyst will join our research team, reporting in to the Senior Director of Research. The research analyst will work closely with the advertising sales team, paid social distribution, audience development, our Content Studio (Alchemy at Group Nine) and other content creators and sales marketers within the organization.

The research analyst will be providing audience data to support the pitch phase, designing ad effectiveness brand studies that align with advertiser goals for their campaign(s), monitoring brand studies to look for areas to optimize performance, vetting and managing day-to-day with 3rd party research vendors, general consumer market or industries research, and working directly with the Senior Director of Research on any and all market and advertising research initiatives on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Audience Measurement
    • Work with Director of Research on general reports for company leadership on advertising effectiveness and audience trends both within Thrillist Media Group properties and across the industry
    • Review month-to-month web traffic and demo trends across Thrillist properties to maintain a strong understanding of our audience makeup
    • Keep an organized log of all ad campaign study results to draw additional strategic insights on ad effectiveness, creative process, and successful campaign content
  • Advertising Sales Support
    • Support Ad Sales team with audience data to pitch advertisers on the Thrillist consumer
    • Work with 3rd-party research provider and Ad Ops team to implement brand health studies, surveys, and other audience measurement products across Thrillist
      • Review RFP and Sales documents to hold a clear understanding of advertiser goals and targets
      • Monitor ad effectiveness and audience measurement processes across all properties to ensure that tech/tags are working correctly and studies are performing positively
    • Work with Director of Research to design campaign reporting and wrap materials for team leadership and ad clients

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, economics, math, psychology, or another quant/analytical field preferred
  • Some level of work experience (or academic equivalent) in a data-driven or advertising-focused media role
  • Comfortable working in a data-driven environment built around media, tech, advertising, and market research
  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency, ability to interpret data, tell a story, provide actionable insights, and use text and/or visual displays to illustrate ideas
  • Understanding of advertising, creatives, web article content and native advertising or branded content
  • High attention to detail, ability to organize and maintain data sets securely
  • Must be familiar with the industry’s biggest premium web publishers -- POPSUGAR, BuzzFeed, Mashable
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn and face challenges, creative and critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agency or in-house brand experience a plus
  • Ad Ops or product design experience a plus
  • Experience in a client-facing role is a plus
  • Statistical or data science background a plus
  • Familiarity with Google DFP, Lotame, SPSS, or STATA a plus
  • Experience with online audience measurement and ad effectiveness research – comScore, Nielsen Digital Ad Ratings, Millward Brown Digital, Facebook Audience Insights, Google Analytics, NewsWhip, MOAT Analytics, etc.
