About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Insights Engineering, LearnVest is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the analytical and reporting needs of the organization. The information curated by the data engineering team is used to make critical business decisions to grow the organization. As a member of this team, you will play a critical role in the design of our data pipeline to clean, manipulate, and store data with efficiency and accuracy. You will work on a team of data engineers and analysts to build our enterprise data environment.

This role involves a high attention to detail, a creative mindset and being a team player. Strong experience working cross-functionally between departments, the ability to wear many hats, communicate to technical professionals and business stakeholders is key to the success of this role.

Requirements:

• Advanced Python/Scala development experience within a data environment
• A focus on developing quality software through code reviews, unit testing, and design reviews
• Hadoop experience (with relevant tools like Kafka, Spark, Hive etc.) - preferably open source implementation and not a store bought tool, but any is better than none
• AWS experience, the more tools the better (data pipeline, S3, Kinesis, and any other tool)
• Monitoring/Ops experience - Log slicing tools (like Splunk), and any real world experience from the trenches
• A positive, fun go-getter who can take work seriously but knows how to joke around while getting things done 

Preferred experience:

• Relational/Columnar Database Admin experience (Redshift, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Oracle)
• Some bi tools experience - Tableau for example, experience creating reports etc.
• BS/BA Degree in Math, Computer Science, or related field
• Experience working in smaller teams with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
