Common is seeking to add a full-time Senior Interactive Designer to our growing team. As a company with a robust online and offline presence, our design staff is responsible for creating an innovative and consistent set of brand touchpoints across all media. Our new Senior Interactive Designer will be at the forefront of creating, and guiding the creation of, our digital brand presence and all digital interfaces.
About Common

Common brings home to life by creating, designing and operating all-inclusive shared homes for those who live life in common. We combine community, convenience, and flexibility to make living with others a joy instead of a chore. Headquartered in New York, Common was founded by General Assembly co-founder Brad Hargreaves in early 2015.

Common partners with real estate owners and developers throughout the US to create community-minded homes. By doing this, we’re addressing the fundamental supply and demand issues that underlie housing in major cities today. Common opened its doors to its first building in Brooklyn in October 2015.

About the Role

As we continue to build and give depth to the Common brand, our Senior Interactive Designer will be involved at every step. From concepting to execution, you will drive our interactive design, branded content creation, and definition of new digital products. Well-versed across all media and with complete fluency of design production tools, Common’s Senior Interactive Designer will be particularly adept in information architecture, user experience, user interface, and data-driven design approaches. Our Senior Interactive Designer will be responsible for delivering stunning and functional visual solutions to a wide variety of brand and digital communication challenges. Depending on the scale of the initiative, they will decide whether to produce finalized designs themselves or work in collaboration with our growing team of designers, technologists, and contentmakers to bring their vision to life.

As a Senior Interactive Designer at Common, you must have excellent communications skills, both visual and verbal, facing internally and externally. When working with the team, you will be expected to provide the energy and vision required to deliver unexpected brand and digital design solutions for a variety of tasks, and garner buy-in from our leadership. You should be accustomed to delivering interactive solutions through a strategic lens, always keeping performance in mind when presenting your designs.

You must be flexible. On any given day, you may find yourself executing a new UI for one of our many digital product initiatives, designing new pages types for our site and other digital marketing locations, setting the tone for a community-driven content project or dreaming up an online campaign with our senior leadership.
Requirements and Responsibilities
  • A beautiful portfolio of work, showing polished examples of real-world interactive projects and visual brand systems for significant clients
  • A demonstrated ability to work within brand guidelines and comfort in adapting them when faced with new products or challenges
  • Full control of Adobe CS products and an interest in learning new tools as needed
  • Currently in a Senior Designer or Interactive Designer Role
  • Strong conceptual thinking and the ability to clearly communicate your concepts
  • Take responsibility for assigned projects - understand the underlying strategy and ensure delivery within appropriate timelines
  • Contribute to the overall creative spark of the team by staying on top of industry trends and pro-actively sharing ideas
  • Excellent presentation skills and an interest in applying creative solutions to business problems
  • Leadership DNA and the desire to help mentor more junior staff
  • 5+ years in a professional environment
  • Relevant degree in user experience design, interactive design, product development, graphic design or similar
