Owning the development cycle for the primary applications that power theSkimm. You’ll define new components and refine existing ones as theSkimm advances on an aggressive product roadmap
Integrating data sources, including interacting with APIs, create and maintain data schemas, and store data in our databases
Writing code! — business logic, request handling, multi-platform presentation, API integrations — anything necessary to turn our product dreams into realities
WHAT YOU'LL NEED

At least five years experience building robust applications in Ruby on Rails or a willingness to bring similar experience in other languages to our Rails/Postgres/NGINX stack
Proficiency in Javascript, HTML, and CSS
Preference for writing clean, simply-expressed, practically-documented code
Along with smarts and humility, be a team player — serve as a collaborator and a mentor
WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

Familiarity and enthusiasm for theSkimm: passion for our audience and mission
Experience with data ETL techniques and task processing tools such as Amazon SWF, Amazon Data Pipeline or Celery
Familiarity with AWS data services such as Redshift, Kinesis, and RDS
