Mic is a diverse news and media company for young people. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and empower our generation to make change happen. Each month, more than 65 million young people rely on Mic to make sense of the world.

Mic’s social crew sits at the intersection of our many talented teams: be it written or video, branded or analytics. We spend our days obsessing about the strategy and execution of distributing Mic content across our many social media platforms. As the Social Content Intern, you’ll be fully integrated in Mic’s editorial and distribution process — you could be in morning stand-ups with the editors, brainstorming with the video teams, writing tweets, or workshopping headlines with the Audience team. You’ll need to wear multiple hats, and well: journalist, copywriter, data scientist, gif-maker, butcher, baker, candlestick maker — it’s all in a day’s work. Have a passion for social media, words, storytelling, today’s most pressing issues, and a good head on your shoulders

Send us a cover letter that won’t bore our socks off, please — keep it brief, and indisputably “you.” And multimedia, duh.

This is a paid full-time summer internship based in New York City. We expect interns to work 40 hours a week for the duration of the program (June 5, 2017 - August 11, 2017). Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Aid Mic’s Audience Team in social distribution of Mic content — whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr
  • Participate in the editorial process — pitch, edit, package stories for maximum impact on social media
  • Analyze data to pull insights for improvement — and be ready to communicate it to your teammates and to the content teams

Qualifications:

  • Digital native - you’ve been reared online, you get it
  • Voracious reader of the news - across publishers, platforms, etc
  • Be able to speak to different publisher’s strategies for distribution
  • Excellent writer, lover of words - short or long form
  • Indefatigable work ethic - we’re a small team, and we work like one with absolutely no exceptions
  • Creative thinker - we brainstorm. A lot
