Social Trends Writer

BuzzFeed Entertainment Group is looking for a social trends writer who lives, breathes, and obsesses over all things internet-related for a full-­time paid position in the New York office, available to start immediately. The ideal candidate is a creative self­-starter who loves following viral stories, human interest, and social trends, and who knows what makes a story viral. This position should be obsessed with the internet, and skilled at researching and writing engaging and entertaining online stories.

BuzzFeed covers trending and human interest stories through an informative, friendly, and funny lens. We cover a vast array of topics — from beauty, food, and animals, to online trends, heartwarming stories, and more. This is an insanely fun position that will involve a lot of fast-paced ideating and writing.

The position is based in our NYC office.

Responsibilities:

• Produce clickable and shareable social trend, human interest, and viral stories
• Observe viral trends on social media and across the internet
• Take an active role in examining social trends and analyzing data around trending stories.
• Work with other social news producers to identify untapped content areas
• Work across teams and divisions in compiling stories, interesting frames, and narrative

Requirements:

• Expert knowledge and experience with the internet space
• One-two years of writing experience
• Social media experience
• Desire to obsessively search for new stories around the web and across social media platforms
• Possess a basic knowledge of internet analytic tools and skills
• A positive, curious, playful disposition with a sense of humor
• Comfort with the fast pace of internet publishing and flexibility toward subject matter
• Experience using all social media platforms, but especially Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat
• Firm grasp on the BuzzFeed voice
• Video knowledge and experience a plus
