Our platform team is the backbone of Button’s core technology and spans across millions of users’ favorite and most-used experiences . We are responsible for designing and building the core services that power Button. As a backend engineer, you will have a foundational role in designing and scaling critical systems that will shape what millions of users will experience.
AS A BACKEND PLATFORM ENGINEER YOU WILL: - Work with the founding team to build our first generation of high-performance platform services and backends
- Produce high-quality, well-documented and tested code
- Own projects from end-to-end: from design, through development, to production
- Quickly distill fast-moving product requirements into tangible engineering tasks and designs
- Shape our engineering culture by coming up with ideas, tools, and infrastructure wherever you see a problem to be solved
- Measure and monitor systems to make data-driven decisions; build dashboards for important metrics.
- 5+ years of experience building distributed, scalable systems
- Tons of system programming or related work
- A generalist background and the ability to “go deep” anywhere in the stack
- Excellent troubleshooting intuition
- War stories of experience designing scalable, “mission critical” systems
- An ability to move fast, make decisions, and a pragmatic approach to any problem
- Our services are written in NodeJS, Go, and Python
- We believe in using the right tool for the job, and we love learning
- We’re big fans of Docker and package all of our services with it
- We believe in automating everything about our deployment
- We use AWS, Graphite, Loggly, and a host of other SaaS tools to run our stack
- Everything is code reviewed
- Mikey Wakerly, CTO. Mikey is Button’s Hawaiian shirt enthusiast and Chief Technology Officer. Founder of Kegbot, a former Googler, and San Francisco transplant, he loves mountain biking, karaoke and logic games.
- Bennett Hiles, Engineer. Bennett’s a platform engineer at Button, spending his time building APIs and backend services. He’s a fan programming languages, databases, delicious food, and NHL 94 (on Super NES). He’s a newbie to NYC (been here for a year) so he’s still exploring the town and taking it all in.
- Eric Mittelhammer, Engineer. Eric shifts bits all around the stack to help build and scale Button's awesome platform. He considers himself a snob connoisseur of fine food, drink, and heavy metal music.
- Laurent Sigal, Engineer. Laurent works on the infrastructure side of things here at Button. Backing new features in a fast and scalable way is the mission. Apart from that, he likes having a good laugh, building things - in the digital or physical world - and escaping the city once in awhile: favorite destination is by the sea, with some wind if possible, to get better at kitesurfing (still a long way to go).
- Tadas Vilkeliskis, Engineer. Tadas is a platform engineer, building out backend systems and infrastructure. When he isn’t working on Button’s platform, he has a bunch of his own side projects. He is Lithuanian, he loves to laugh, and has a selfie stick with his picture on it!
