About the Engineering team:

Our engineering team works on product-oriented problems across the boundaries of e-commerce, mobile, analytics and shipping/fulfillment. The backbone of our business is our custom logistics management system, which gives us the crucial ability to deliver the right product to the right user at the right time - a simple goal with a complex solution. We use data, engineering and algorithms to create a personalized website and an adaptive supply chain to fulfill our commitment to an amazing customer experience.

Engineers at Rent the Runway solve real business challenges and have a tangible impact on the success of the company. Some engineers work on cross-functional teams devoted to specific parts of our product, while other teams focus on functions like data engineering and DevOps. Our engineers come from different backgrounds, industries, and walks of life - and we all contribute to a collaborative, product-driven culture across our organization.

About the Data team:

The Infralytics Data Engineering team at Rent the Runway is responsible for the extraction, transformation, storage, and accessibility of data generated across the business. Data engineers on the team handle everything from location scans of inventory in the warehouse to website clickstreams. Datastores in use include MySQL, HP Vertica, and MongoDB; the primary toolset is Python, Java, and Scala. Current projects in the pipeline include a large-scale migration to the cloud; overhauling the primary recommendations engine from end to end; and redesigning the clickstream processing system.

You should be someone who:

Has three plus years of technical experience, plus education. You should be curious and excited to tackle big new projects with an eye towards delving deeply to find the heart of any given problem. You should own your projects, build great tools, and not be afraid of blowing up the status quo. You should revel in finding a solution that is both comprehensive well-tailored to the task at hand that covers all the corners. You'll use some great tools like Python, Java, Scala, AWS, Kafka, and have the opportunity to introduce your favorites to our stack.

 What you, a Data Engineer, would be doing:

  • Develop tooling in Python, SQL, Java, Scala, and shell scripts
  • Develop batch-driven and real-time data flows
  • Overhaul our pipelines to make our data faster, more accessible, more flexible, and more accurate
  • Work with product, tech, fashion, finance, the warehouse, and more to design and build simple data solutions to complex problems

Desired technical skills:

  • Fluency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle)
  • Fluency in Data Modelling from both Application and Warehousing perspectives
  • Fluency in a functional, imperative or object-oriented language such as Python, Java, C, or Scala
  • Experience using Linux/Unix
  • Experience with cloud technologies (such as AWS)
  • Experience with deployment and container technologies (e.g. Ansible, Vagrant), continuous integration technologies, and source code management (such as Git)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with web standards (HTTP, JSON) and RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Scala
  • Experience with NoSql databases (MongoDB)
