Our Company

Ellevest is a well-funded startup in NYC, poised to be the leading digital investment platform for women. We started the company to solve a problem — for all the attention paid to the gender pay gap, there’s also a gender investing gap that can cost women even more over the course of their lives. That means building a technology-based investing service around women’s longer lifespans, different salary curves, and research-based behavioral differences. Led by Sallie Krawcheck, former head of Smith Barney and Merrill Lynch, and with investors including Khosla Ventures, Morningstar, and Venus Williams, we’re growing and always looking for great people to join our diverse team.

About This Position

As a web engineer, you will assist the front-end team by developing web pages and features for the Ellevest website and investing platform. This is a great opportunity for an entry level engineer to learn and contribute to a Webby-nominated financial product, working with modern front-end tools including React, Webpack, and Sass/SCSS.

Responsibilities

  • Build responsive pages, components, and HTML emails to support our marketing strategy
  • Help integrate marketing site content with a CMS platform
  • Write front-end JavaScript tests for existing product features and components
  • Contribute to our front-end style guide, CSS documentation, and React component library
  • Help diagnose and resolve front-end bugs in our marketing site and product
  • Work with other engineers to develop new product features
  • Work closely with our design and engineering teams to establish workflows and UX patterns that follow best practices

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (without depending on libraries such as jQuery and Bootstrap)
  • Experience building responsive, cross-platform websites that follow modern best practices
  • Proficient in working with a CSS pre-processor (Sass/SCSS preferred)
  • Must be comfortable working collaboratively on a team using git
  • Experience working with server APIs & asynchronous JavaScript
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and general web development
  • Familiarity or experience with React and ES6 is a plus
  • Detail-oriented and motivated independent learner
