Working at Button is one of the most fun, fulfilling, and challenging experiences you'll have - and it's one of the reasons why we were voted best place to work in NYC.
Mobile commerce is exploding, and Android is becoming huge part of that. As the second member of our Android team, you’ll be responsible for building our Android SDK (and much more down the road). Not only is this component critical to us, but it will be a major selling point to our partners — applications that have millions of installed users. Your code will “light up” overnight, resulting in a huge, high-impact opportunity.
AS AN ANDROID ENGINEER YOU WILL:
  • Design and build our Android SDK, building best-in-class experiences that make Button (and our partners) truly shine
  • Produce high-quality, well-documented and tested code
  • Design and own automated testing across Android targets.
  • Design software to be simple and self-service and serve as our Android expert for “high touch” partners for important integrations
  • Produce exemplary Java code and intuitive, idiomatic Android components
  • Quickly distill fast-moving product requirements into tangible engineering tasks and designs
  • Shape our engineering culture by coming up with ideas, tools, and infrastructure wherever you see a problem to be solved
WE LOOK FOR TEAMMATES WHO HAVE:
  • Examples and insights from working on highly visible community or open source projects, Android applications, and/or SDKs
  • A keen sense for how the Android platform works under-the-hood
  • An eye for every little detail, whether it’s in the code or the user interface - you can tell when something doesn’t feel just right — and you aren’t satisfied until it does
  • “Full stack” attitude: You are passionate about all things Android, and you’re comfortable elsewhere in the stack, too.
HOW DO WE WORK TOGETHER?
  • Github and pull requests for peer reviews
  • Dedicated pair programming stations
  • Rigorous and constant automated testing and integration
YOU WILL WORK WITH:
  •  Mikey Wakerly, CTO. Mikey is Button’s Hawaiian shirt enthusiast and Chief Technology Officer. Founder of Kegbot, a former Googler, and San Francisco transplant, he loves mountain biking, karaoke and logic games.
  • Chris Maddern, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Button. Prior to Button, Chris led mobile engineering at popular social payments network Venmo & has founded several mobile products startups.. some of which were successful. In his spare time, Chris is an avid foodie and wine-lover. When not eating or drinking he will always be found tinkering with some new project.
  • Wes Smith, Lead Software Engineer, iOS. Wes is an early employee of Button and is also known as “iO-Wes”. He leads iOS at Button and is responsible for building most of Button’s iOS SDK and open source projectDeepLink Kit. He's from Maine, surfs on lakes (what?!) and can often be found creating or consuming delicious things.

Our team also values and celebrates our diverse backgrounds. Being open about who we are and what we do allows us to do the best work of our lives. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. You can learn more about how we are making Button a diverse and inclusive environment through our perks and benefits here.
