 Overview

Homer, the children’s media company behind the #1 Learn to Read program for kids, is looking for a Software Project Manager to join our team! This position is based in our NY office and is responsible for executing product projects and features from ideation through execution. This role requires you to work across key stakeholders and departments (leadership, education & research, business, content, design, engineering, & marketing) to define scope, create technical specs, prioritize work, and ensure that all project deadlines are met. You are responsible for owning the workflow from idea to release as well as all of the communication in between.

Responsibilities

Product Roadmap & Requirements Management

  • Work closely with stakeholders and product owners in defining scope and ensuring clarity in communication with execution teams
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to create comprehensive business requirements for projects to demonstrate potential ROI and KPIs impact
  • Work with analytics team to use insights from internal data to assist in developing comprehensive requirements in an iterative agile/scrum environment
  • Oversee design and development requirements and ensure they are within scope and provide direction and feedback in relations to scope, schedule, and resource management
  • Monitor scrum boards in JIRA to ensure alignment of prioritized engineering work and roadmap
  • Manage cross departmental and team expectations with realistic and accurate project status updates

Team & Process Management

  • Keep teams engaged following agile methodology in the role of a Scrum Master for both co-located and remote team members

  • Ensure timely and cohesive communication between teams by facilitating discussions, maintaining lines of communication, and improving transparency

  • Constantly evaluate and implement processes to improve team velocity in order to deliver products on time and at budget

  • Continuously coach and assess processes and roles to adapt to changing needs and environments of teams

  • Remove obstacles and guide teams in identifying the balance between MVP and pursuit of perfection, while being mindful of necessary and unnecessary scope creep

  • Empower and guide members to be vocal, thoughtful, efficient and entrepreneurial

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of Project Management experience or experience managing an engineering team
  • Experience working in Agile environment with a bias towards action
  • Extensive experience working in JIRA
  • Previous experience working across teams to execute both large and small scale projects
  • High attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with the ability to communicate to both business and technical personnel
  • Ability to multitask and work on several projects at once
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills. Able to interpret data and trends, diagnose problems, and develop innovative & effective actions plans to resolve issues
  • Exceptional ability to develop and maintain cross-functional relationships; including remote team members and partners
  • Experience working with remote teams is a plus
  • Experience in fast paced Startup, Ed Tech and/or Kids Media is a plus
