Your Mission at LearnVest

Our team maintains all existing LearnVest web applications and are building the next-generation platform for LearnVest at Work. You will be a member of a highly skilled and motivated team, within a Scrum/Agile workflow, working with current web technologies and best practices. 

As a Technical Lead, you will help manage, architect, code, and implement applications for the LearnVest team. You will lead a small team of engineers and work cross-functionally between various departments (Product, Data, Marketing, and Design) to help drive new engineering efforts for LearnVest.

Your general milestones are:

  • Within one month, be a sponge and get up to speed quickly, taking on tasks and contributing to the team.
  • Within two months, participating in the day-to-day activities of the project, working on critical tasks, interfacing with other teams.
  • Within three months, be a fully contributing member of the team, with solid knowledge of the current architecture and direction of the project. Mentoring more junior engineers in a team is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in web application development
  • Strong fundamental understanding of both front-end and back-end web development technologies and Responsive Web Design
  • Programming experience in Java or another JVM-based language
  • Programming experience in JavaScript (ES6+), including experience with Node.js and various libraries/frameworks
  • Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases
  • Track record on proposing web application architectures & design
    • Proven experience with creating/maintaining Restful APIs
    • Designing and implementing Microservices
    • Designing robust database schemas
  • Proficiency in writing useful and maintainable unit testing code
  • Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes or related technology
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with Jira

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a technical team
  • Java 8 and/or JVM fine-tuning
  • Experience with a popular Java web framework, e.g Spring Boot, Dropwizard, Ratpack, vertx, or netty
  • Experience with React
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud providers
  • Experience with Unix-like operating systems
  • B.S. degree or higher in Computer Science, Math or related field
