Technical Product Manager
As a Technical Product Manager for the Data team you’ll play a central and visible role in developing Grubhub’s data strategy within the engineering organization, in order to communicate between engineering and the business to ensure that technology initiatives are effectively carried through. You’ll help to create and evolve consistent processes and reporting structures, ensuring that we’re solving problems in the best way possible. That means discovering problems and opportunities and breaking them down to define, deliver and measure solutions. The ability to transition from guts of that work to business level communication is vital, because these findings shape what we do as a business.
We’re a fast-paced bunch, but we’re friendly, too. Whatever the problem, we can figure it out together.
- Develop deep knowledge of cross-department dependencies so that software built meets the needs of all—and doesn't hinder any
- Take a problem, break it down and do thorough analysis exposing all edge cases through collaborating with the right people
- Work with the development team to determine the right solution, and then turn around and work with stakeholders to define priority and scope
- Build a framework around a project, be responsible for status, communicating timelines and managing execution to deliver software on time
- Work with our awesome research team to gather user insights to ensure we’re solving the right problems the right way
- Analyze data to measure impact of delivered software and use it to iterate on improvements
- Translate from technical to business, and vice versa. You need to be able to speak with the least technically-minded client (internal or external) and make technology make sense to them. Then turn around and do it the other way
- Learn from and contribute to arguably the greatest tech team of all time. We're organized in cross-functional teams and you'll help represent the user for a cross-functional team of Engineers, QA, and Designers
- 2-3 years of real experience with business analysis and project management
- Agile experience; one-week deployments experience with large geographically dispersed teams a plus
- A bachelor's degree, preferably in a computer-related discipline. However, deep related experience may take the place of a degree
- SQL Skills; you’ll need to be able to dig into the data behind the products
- Project management skills. You’ll need to be able to understand how to scope and prioritize intelligently and push back when needed
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to crystallize and broadly socialize insights
- Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in working with and solving for our business stakeholders
- Rigorous attention to detail and accuracy
- Adaptability and collaborative skills
- Enthusiasm for the job. Are you excited about data? Do you love your users? Good, the same goes for us
- The expectation to be realistic. GrubHub is a silly friendly place, but there’s lots of work to get done, and it’s your job to find the balance. Be nice. Be firm. Be everything.
