We need someone with inspiration, passion, and confidence to establish the team, define the process, and lead the design of our solutions. We believe that the best user experiences set a company apart and ensure success, so you’ll have the resources necessary to do the job, and do it right.

Updater is one of the fastest growing tech companies in New York, having raised over $50 million with plans to more than double the size of its team this year. Our goal is to streamline the moving process for the 17 million of households who move each year in America. Moving is complicated, but it shouldn’t be. That’s why our platform is comprised of a suite of both business and consumer-facing apps: from a consumer-facing platform to a variety of products for real estate companies.

What you’ll do:

  • Minimize the stress, time, and uncertainty involved in completing the steps involved with moving by taking a user-centered design approach and rapidly testing and iterating your designs using data.
  • Streamline the efforts of our relocation industry clients, related to helping their customers during the moving process.
  • Plan the future of Product Design / UX team at Updater and lead hiring efforts.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to establish a nimble development process that incorporates users at every stage.
  • Work cross-functionally with members of our sales, support, and client services organizations, and externally with our clients, to gather feedback and explore solutions.
  • Solve business problems by applying the relevant design methodologies, including translating concepts into the relevant deliverables to support the development of amazing products.
  • Facilitate product vision by researching, conceiving, wireframing, sketching, prototyping, and mocking up user experiences for digital products.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to existing features, as well as innovative new products.
  • Take smart and deliberate risks as you champion new ideas.

 What you have:

  • 5+ years of UX design experience (B2B a bonus!).
  • 2+ years experience hiring and managing.
  • Competency in multiple disciplines under the UX umbrella. We are looking for a generalist and we understand the related trade-offs.
  • Demonstrate a well thought-out approach to design, based on principles and/or data.
  • Ability to understand complex requirements and design complete user experiences that meet business objectives and support our product vision.
  • A solid understanding of task-oriented workflows, client-centered design and research methodologies, usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and product stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset and you are open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism.
  • A passion and curiosity about design and our client-users, demonstrated by knowledge of the latest design, research and related technology trends.
  • A working knowledge of design related technologies, and cross-device design

A month at Updater might include:

  • Rotating office DJ duties
  • Catered Monday breakfasts, Friday lunches, and rip-roaring happy hours
  • Awesome off-site activities, like zombie laser tag and Escape the Room (just to name a few!)
  • Cross-functional collaboration with the entire team
  • Group outings to NYC Meetup events
