Mic is a diverse news and media company for young people. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and empower our generation to make change happen. Each month more than 65 million young people rely on Mic to make sense of the world.

This intern will report to our Video Insights Analyst and work in close proximity to the programming, branded content, and video teams. They will help our editorial insights team provide data-driven recommendations to inform our content strategies, as well as ideate and execute on experiments. This is truly a cross-functional role that will give broad exposure to the inner workings of a fast-paced digital media startup and the part data plays in defining its strategy.

This is a paid full-time summer internship based in New York City. We expect interns to work 40 hours a week for the duration of the program (June 5, 2017 - August 11, 2017). Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear reporting on all insights and communicate to key stakeholders
  • Form strategies to grow audience rapidly across distributed platforms
  • Utilize paid social media to run and report on A/B tests
  • Create content plans to inform editorial and programming decisions
  • Work with programming editors to help understand audience behavior across all of our distribution channels
  • Work with editorial directors and video producers to deliver useful feedback on story choice and narratives

Qualifications:

  • You understand numbers and statistics as well as you understand what makes people share something on social media
  • You have a deep fascination with existing social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) as well as other distributed content platforms such as messaging apps
  • You understand how to work with large amounts of data to support or refute a hypothesis
  • You are proficient in Excel and have a desire to learn about other business intelligence tools
  • You love running experiments, and would like to run tests with every piece of content Mic publishes
  • You have a high degree of intellectual curiosity
  • You have a passion for media, the news, and viral videos
  • You have a sense of humor
  • Currently enrolled in an undergrad or graduate program
