Kickstarter has built a lean, tight-knit team of amazing engineers who value learning, feedback, and collaboration. We’re looking for a VP of Engineering to lead the team through Kickstarter’s continuing growth.
You will be responsible for nurturing the team’s culture by fostering talent, ensuring that engineers at all levels have opportunities for growth and development, and designing processes for smooth operations. Through training and mentorship, you’ll build a sustainable managerial layer who are empowered to make strong technical and people management decisions. You will oversee the team’s capacity and capability, balancing and advocating for steady progress on the product, the infrastructure, and the total system health.

You’ll also be responsible for tending to the team’s overall structure and organization, thoroughly understanding the skills and potential of individuals and the team as a whole, so that you can make strategic decisions about development and hiring. Our ideal candidate is experienced with recruiting, and will build out and maintain a pipeline that includes engineers from all different backgrounds, skill level, and experience. As a leader, you will work closely with senior management at Kickstarter, communicating the priorities of the engineering team, defining goals, and ensuring alignment across the organization. Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit are a must. It will be your role to ensure engineers are empowered to accomplish large technical projects that will help build a better product overall, while simultaneously making progress on shared product priorities across the organization.
You should:
  • Have at least 5 years of experience leading teams of 15+ people
  • Be a skilled people manager, who has been responsible for team design and employee growth/development for engineers at all skill levels
  • Bring extensive technical experience
  • Enjoy recruiting and be skilled at attracting world class talent
