Summary

We're looking for a VP of Global Communications to lead building the Away brand through the development and management of innovative communications strategies including media relations, executive comms, social impact comms, internal comms, influencer strategy, social media, and campaign management. 

The right person is creative, organized and ambitious with a proven track record of leading transformative communications strategies. This role is based in our Noho, NYC headquarters and reports to the Co-Founder and CEO.

 

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Lead the development and mentorship of Away's existing comms teams, including social impact, PR, influencers, social media, and campaign management to ensure they have the coaching, tools, and skill sets needed to thrive and grow in their roles
  • Drive the creation and oversee the execution of innovative communications strategies that advance the Away brand through brand positioning, thought leadership, evergreen coverage, product launches, experiential programs, seasonal activations, and other brand activations 
  • Work closely with other departments including Creative, Customer Experience, Growth Marketing, E-Commerce, Consumer Insights, Retail, and International to ensure a cohesive and stakeholder-aligned comms strategy for everything we do 
  • Cultivate close relationships with journalists and editors across all relevant media verticals to stay on top of trends and story lines that make sense for Away
  • Create scalable processes across all areas of Communications to ensure the team can seamlessly work with both external partners and cross-functionally across the Away team 
  • Oversee the development of a comprehensive Comms/Brand library, including media documents, FAQs, talking points, and press releases
  • Develop short- and long-term strategic positioning of Away in the media

 

Who you are:

  • You have at least 10 years experience in a series of Communications roles—including 3+ years of brand-side and/or early stage company experience—as well as 5+ years experience leading high performing teams 
  • You have a track record of ideating and executing innovative communications strategies that uniquely connect brands and consumers in unprecedented ways 
  • Your communication skills are unrivaled, and you know how to make people listen and understand
  • You have extraordinary writing and editing skills
  • You’re an excellent planner who can both develop a vision and execute on it
  • You’re a leader who will thoughtfully develop and mentor a team
  • You love to travel (but that's a given)
