BuzzFeed is looking for a empathetic, user-centered Vice President of IT in either New York or Los Angeles to support and grow our global IT team (twenty people across three offices). Our ideal hire has enthusiasm for managing and helping people, as well as a track record of growing and scaling IT. You will advise, mentor and direct our IT team of 20 people, who span roles ranging from Help Desk support, to network engineering and video production solutions.

IT at BuzzFeed currently supports ~1500 employees across 17 offices around the world. That support includes: general helpdesk inquiries, onboarding and offboarding, hardware management, security, assistance with office build-outs and network infrastructure, video conferencing, A/V setup and troubleshooting for internal events, as well as video production and archiving assistance to our global team of video producers.

As the VP of IT, you’ll work closely with the Tech department leadership team, along with counterparts in HR, Finance, Legal, Facilities and Security to ensure we’re thinking of solutions that benefit our end users and BuzzFeed equally. You’ll also manage our teams based out of L.A., New York and London to help them set and roll out policy, manage the health of the team and create strong relationships with all of BuzzFeed’s departments.

You Should Apply If You’ve...

  • Previously managed a cross-disciplinary IT team supporting a globally-distributed company.
  • Managed a team supporting video production and video archiving (we make a lot of video!).
  • Created or evolved role documentation and career ladders for your team and have evidence your roles were clear and useful for your team.
  • Implemented a stellar video conferencing system and have proof your company was pumped about it.
  • Developed and managed cross-functional IT teams: everything from Network Engineering to Help Desk support, A/V Specialists and Video Production IT.
  • Supported IT Managers in growing their skill set and achieving their professional goals.
  • Worked closely with other departments (Security, HR, Facilities, etc.) to influence and set company-wide policies.
  • Driven international office build-outs from an IT and networking perspective.
  • Worked in a primarily-Apple hardware environment and know its capabilities and constraints.

What You’ll Do For IT

  • Foster a positive, healthy working environment for our entire IT team.
  • Think differently about IT. Keep our entire team focused on the end-user experience and advocate for best-in-class technical and policy solutions.
  • Develop IT team goals, values and principles at regular intervals to ensure we’re working on the right problems and approaching problems with the correct frame of mind.
  • Establish a long-term vision for the structure and execution of IT at BuzzFeed.
  • Develop and implement clear and effective project management processes within IT. Assist in setting project priorities, timelines and staffing.
  • Mentor, support and empower IT Managers and teams in L.A., London and NYC.
  • Develop clear, fair and effective role documentation, career paths, hiring practices and mentorship opportunities for members of the IT team.

What You’ll Do For BuzzFeed

  • Develop, implement and maintain policies to enable all BuzzFeed employees to better do their jobs, as well as to minimize security risks.
  • Ensure IT has the skills, training and staffing to provide technical support for all BuzzFeed employees, whether Video Producers, Software Engineers, Editors, Sales, Facilities, etc.
  • Travel between BuzzFeed offices regularly to stay in touch with IT teams, as well as to build relationships and identify site-specific needs.
  • Meet regularly with other department heads to find opportunities for collaboration and process/policy/tooling improvements.
  • Work with Finance to create, maintain and optimize the global IT budget.
  • Lead and manage BuzzFeed’s hardware, maintenance agreements, licenses and software vendor relationships.
