New York's latest tech wave: BoozeTech

We live in truly remarkable times. With a month and a half left in 2016, we've seen Bob Dylan win a Nobel Prize, an iPhone without a headphone jack and a historic election pass by. And, though it didn't make headlines, a new category of tech companies are beginning to thrive.

BoozeTech is here.

Here are five NYC-based BoozeTech companies you should know.

Hooch is a subscription-based app that lets users get one free drink every day, at any participating bar. Since subscriptions run $9.99, about the price of a glass of mediocre happy hour wine on the island, that means you’re getting 30 drinks for the price of one. Not a bad deal, and a great way to check out some new locations.

Minibar delivers booze to your door on-demand. It's the sort of thing that a college version of yourself would have gone nuts for and the grown up version of you can afford. Combined with Grubhub, Netflix and video conferencing, it's hard to come up with a reason to leave your house at all.

Thirstie is a one-stop-online-shop for everything wine, beer and spirits. Thirstie offers on-demand delivery, access to rare products and booze-related content, expert recommendations and even cocktail recipes. Thirstie is kind of like having a close friend who is a sommelier, only that friend lives on your phone and isn't insufferable at parties.

Lot18 is like having your corner wine store online. Instead of offering every bottle under the sun, they curate their selection to only include great wines at reasonable prices. Their whole thing is being able to offer a wine at a price that far out punches its price.

SevenFifty is bringing the world of wholesale alcohol supply online, and making it convenient for buyers. It turns out that the way restaurants and bars purchase alcohol is incredibly antiquated and complicated, and SevenFifty wants to change that. The company pulled in an $8.5 million Series A earlier this year.
