5 NYC tech events you don't want to miss this week

Intro to Data Science Evening Course, June 13th at 6:30 p.m.

Sergey Fogelson, an instructor at Metis will be hosting an open house for his upcoming 6-week evening Introduction to Data Science. The course itself will start on the 12th of July. If you’re interested in learning a bit about Data Science, this is a great opportunity to see if the course is right for you — and pizza and drinks will be served. 

Geospatial Storytelling and the NYC Space/Time Directory, June 14th at 6:30 p.m.

This talk will explore different ways to visualize collected GPS data to form a cohesive story. The talk will provide a brief introduction to geospatial concepts and tools — so don’t worry if those terms seem scary. The NYC Space/Time Directory is aiming to make urban history more accessible through interactive, location-aware tools. Pretty cool, right? 

Jobs in Tech: A Career Roundtable for Job Seekers, June 14th at 6:30 p.m.

This panel discussion will answer questions for people who want to break into the tech world. The panel features technology recruiters, a career coach and some tech professionals. If you want to know what types of companies are hiring, or how to market yourself as a candidate for a job, this event is for you. 

Brand Academy, Featuring The NYTimes, Edelman and littleBits, June 15th at 6:00 p.m.

Brandfoler’s Brand Academy is back in session. This time you’ll hear brand stories from representatives of The New York Times, littleBits and Edelman. They’ll talk about building a good personal brand and then take a deep dive into The Times’ newest brand initiatives. Food and drinks will be served. 

Unikernels: What are they good for?, June 15th at 6:30 p.m.

Unikernels are catching on. This talk will provide a brief overview of methods of computing, as well as an introduction to unikernels. There’ll be a demonstration and time for questions.
