We all have pet interests. Interests that we don’t do professionally or plan on making a career out of. For me, that interest is history. I love hearing different perspectives and details about historical events. To some degree history is perfect not only for my entertainment but for my cynicism. I refuse to watch historical documentaries praising a rosy tinted version of history. I much prefer a nonbiased and gritty view on what actually happened on the ground. And for that reason I am enthralled by the YouTube series The Great War.
The Great War is a week by week show on YouTube that painstakingly dictates what happened this week in World War One. The host of the show, Indy Neidell, does an outstanding job puling you into the realm of World War One. Indy plays no favorites and gives equal time to every aspect of a very complicated and massive conflict.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Indy on his journey starting the channel. He reflects on what makes for a great modern documentary and his love of early baseball. I can confidently say that this interview has been one of my favorites so far.
