Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring an Analytics Engineer I to join our Data Team.

Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.

About the role:

The Analytics Engineer I designs, builds, and maintains dimensional models and data transformations that convert raw operational data into reliable, well-structured analytical assets. You’ll work within Oscar’s unified data foundation in dbt, partnering with domain experts and stakeholders to capture business logic and translate it into dimensional models that serve analytics use cases across the organization. Under the guidance of more senior Analytics Engineers, you’ll build and maintain models, implement automated tests to ensure long-term data product health, and contribute to the semantic layer that powers enterprise business intelligence. This is a hands-on role focused on growing your craft in dimensional modeling, SQL, and analytics engineering within a healthcare environment.

You will report into the Associate Director, Data Science.

Work Location: This position is based in our New York City office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule.

Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $106,812 - $140,190.75 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, and annual performance bonuses.

  • Contribute to the development and documentation of best practices for engineering and analytics development, consistent with industry standards and internal guidelines.
  • Under the guidance of more senior Analytics Engineers, partner with Subject Matter Experts and Business stakeholders to explore data, define business requirements, design and implement solutions for one or more data transformation and/or downstream semantic layer systems.
  • Advance the Analytics Engineering roadmap by executing on small-to-medium projects with minimal oversight
  • Contribute to the administration of the analytics platform, including but not limited to active participation in support channels and actioning  access requests.
  • Leverage a working knowledge of existing data quality checks as well as monitoring and alerting pipelines to perform Root Cause Analyses of data defects as needed and escalate to the appropriate team when warranted.

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience working with SQL.
  • 1+ years of experience developing in a semantic modeling language (e.g. LookML).
  • 1+ years of experience developing within a modern data transformation tool like DBT.
  • 1+ years of experience with cloud database tools (GCP, AWS, Azure).

Bonus points:

  • Experience working with healthcare or insurance industry data, analytics, and reporting.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and dbt.
  • Experience building dimensional models (star schemas, slowly changing dimensions).
  • Strong communication skills, as demonstrated by experience partnering with non-technical stakeholders.
