OVERVIEW

Broadly is looking for an associate editor to join our online editorial team. The ideal candidate would provide guidance to junior members of our staff and contribute to our generation-defining, women’s coverage. The associate editor will be expected to commission articles from freelancers, as well as help with top edits and give final publication approval on pieces from our staff writers. This person should be well versed in news and culture impacting women’s lives and have an insatiable drive for breaking stories and finding unique ways to talk about issues swirling around the internet on any given day. This is a fast-paced work environment; the ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining sky-high editorial standards is essential.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Managing a variety of content coverage for Broadly
• Acting as an editorial resource for junior members of the team
• Editing and approving daily content from writers, and ensuring the quality of stories published on Broadly
• Commissioning and editing 3–7 original pieces per week
• Writing original pieces when possible
• Generating story ideas
• Shaping and driving the voice of the site
• Coordinating content ideas with the managing editor and senior editors

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years experience as an editor at a notable publication or high-volume website covering women’s issues, culture, and/or politics
• Knowledge of the current global media environment and the VICE brand
• Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with all social media platforms, CMS, and Photoshop
