The Team
The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife's U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis to business intelligence, data science and AI.
The Role
MetLife is seeking an experienced AVP of Reporting for Disability product initiatives within its Group Benefits business. The objective of these initiatives is to responsibly expand MetLife's market share in the Disability & Absence space and to improve employer and participant satisfaction with MetLife's Disability offerings, while meeting cost targets.
This individual will report to Vice President of D&A for Absence, Disability & Life, and collaborate with key stakeholders on the Disability product, US Technology, and Sales & Service teams to ensure that the D&A reporting and dashboarding functions enable key Disability business goals and values.
This position will oversee D&A efforts to develop, deliver and continuously improve Disability reporting and dashboard solutions for customers and operational and service areas, supporting the Disability product's business goals and the New Frontier strategy. The role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, accurate and timely reporting solutions. Longer term, the role is responsible for evolving the function beyond delivery to one that generates actionable insights that will drive business outcomes and enhance client experience. With the team spanning D&A functions from BI development, data analysis, to data engineering, this role will also serve as a key partner to Data Operations and Data Platforms teams, providing strong production support and upholding reporting resilience to maintain service excellence. In addition, this role will establish and enforce standards for managing report inventories, optimizing report utilization and ensuring alignment with business needs. Through AI innovation, cross-functional collaboration and a focus on analytics maturity, this role will be instrumental in ensuring that the Disability business remains competitive, secure, and adaptable in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $185K to $215K. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the backlog for Disability reporting and dashboarding in the ADM model, in collaboration with Disability business and US Tech leadership.
- Oversee the delivery of the Disability aligned reporting solutions in the ADM model, including standard and customized reports, dashboards and data feeds.
- Substantial automation of the reporting process via a combination of AI and self-service enablement.
- Partner with Data Ops and Data Platform teams in response to incidents affecting Disability reporting and data pipelines, including support for customer impact analysis, mitigation steps, remediation steps, and root cause and permanent fix.
- Regularly review reporting inventory for consistent usage and relevance for Disability in the Data Reporting pillar, and incorporate reporting hygiene, enhancements and performance optimization activities into the backlog as needed.
- Governance: Establish and enforce governance standards for reporting inventory across internal and external stakeholders, including ownership, SLA definitions, change controls, notification protocols, and usage monitoring.
- New business: Oversee intake of reporting requirements tied to new business initiatives, evaluating downstream impacts, working with business and tech partners to coordinate testing and validation activities.
- Initiative delivery: Co-develop and execute the reporting delivery for Disability, aligned with business objectives.
- Keep current with changes in the Absence & Disability market and relevant changes in Federal and State legislation, and suggest proactive solutions within Disability reports and dashboards to address those changes.
- Keep current with changes in technology and services available on Azure, and proactively suggest solutions based on emerging technologies.
- Executive leadership: Serve as a vital member of the extended Disability leadership and governance team, participating in strategic planning and goal setting. Build strategic partnerships with key business, Technology and other leaders.
- Team Development & Cultural Transformation: Lead the cultural shift from a traditional reporting-focused team to an insights and business-outcome-driven mindset. Develop training programs for customer domain knowledge and communication skills. Redesign performance metrics to emphasize business impact and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Establish and facilitate effective governance through best-practice lean-agile management routines and cadences to engage critical cross-functional executives and stakeholders in ongoing business management and program-level decision-making.
- Global team and resource management: Fully integrate a global team spanning by balancing U.S. employees, India-based employees (both in multiple locations) and consulting resources. Drive consistent culture and performance standards to maximize effectiveness. Design career development paths for high-potential talent.
- Proactive D&A leadership: Proactively identify and propose data-driven solutions to business challenges, leading analytics organization beyond traditional service provider role to become strategic innovation partner driving business transformation.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or related quantitative field. B.S. degree with continuing education could be equivalent.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in data analytics leadership.
- 10+ years of insurance business experience, or other consumer financial services experience with similar complexity.
- 10+ years' experience in Data and Analytics focused delivery (Business Intelligence, Database, ETL, MS Azure, Advanced Analytics systems).
- Expertise in Business Intelligence, including creating and maintaining custom and standard reporting and dashboard packages. Proficiency in some related software packages (Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos, etc.)
- Expertise in data engineering, data governance and Data/ML Ops and related software and procedures. Proficiency in SQL and one or more data pipeline development / ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, SSIS, Spark, Talend, Kafka).
- Proven track record of leading data & analytics teams and delivering business value via creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization.
- Experience with reporting automation and reporting self-service to create efficiencies.
- Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication.
- Understanding of legacy insurance platforms and modernization initiatives.
- Experience with employee benefits plans is a plus.
- Experience with Hadoop and MS Azure is a plus.
